Lesser blue-eared glossy starling
For Christmas I got a taxidermy lesser blue-eared glossy starling. It is completely new. As its name suggests, it is very glossy and it is green with a blue tinge behind its eye and just under its wing. They come from Africa and look nothing like our british starling and are a bit taller. It has a good base and it’s the most expensive bird I’ve had so far. The taxidermist, Hanson, has got a lot of other great mounted birds on his website including things like a great grey owl. White-throated kingfisher
A few months ago, with my pocket money I bought a white-throated kingfisher, a large species which comes from southern Europe and Asia. We bought it from the same person who did the campo troupial. In the wild they eat fish, large insects, birds and even small snakes and lizards. They are only slightly different than a Brtish kingfisher in colour but have a large pink beak, a reddy-brown head and shoulders and a turquoise back and tail.
